Aren't these piggy buns the cutest?

They taste extremely yummy too! 🐷

Few weeks ago, my friend came over to my house & we've always wanted to bake together therefore I had to find a recipe of something we could bake together. I then remembered, my friend Katelyn bakes + cooks a lot therefore I decided to scroll through her Instagram feed to see what I can make! I then stumbled across these cute little piggy steamed buns that Katelyn and her boyfriend made! I was worried that it would be too complicated to make but I wanted to try it out for myself, so I went on her food blog and search up the recipe! Surprisingly, Katelyn's thorough explanation on how to make these buns made it extremely easy to follow!

My friend and I had a lot of fun making these buns! We recreated these buns using Katelyn's amazing recipe! One good thing about making steamed buns besides being able to consume it fresh is that you're also able to add in your favourite fillings into the bun! Unfortunately, my friend & I forgot to add in fillings because we were too carried away chatting away whilst baking but will definitely incorporate it next time!

Please feel free to check out my talented friend, Katelyn's IG & website for more of her delicious recipes! 🄰

SERVING: 12 BUNS

INGREDIENTS:

  1. All purpose flour -- 225g

  2. Corn starch -- 45g

  3. Instant yeast -- 3g

  4. Sugar -- 65g

  5. Oil -- ¾ tbsp

  6. Milk -- 150mL

  7. Pink Food Colouring -- 2 drops

  8. Chia seeds / black sesame seeds (for the eyes)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Mix the flour, yeast and sugar in a bowl. Add in the oil and milk and knead until you get a rough dough, then let rest covered with cling film for 15 minutes

  2. Knead until elastic and you achieve the windowpane effect (translucent when stretched), about 10 - 15 minutes

  3. Set 15g aside for the nose and ears and wrap in cling film

  4. Drop pink food colouring on the remainder of the dough until you reach a shade of pink that you want! Knead until dough is a homogenous colour

  5. Divide the dough into 12 portions and shape into smooth balls

  6. Use the 15g dough to make ears and a snout for the balls (I used the metal tip of a piping bag to cut these out, and indented the nose with a toothpick). Use water to stick the features on to each bun

  7. Use a toothpick dipped in water to make indentations for the eye and place the chia seeds in

  8. Cover and let the dough proof until doubled (roughly an hour)

  9. Steam the buns on low heat for about 10 minutes, wrapping the lid of your pot in a cloth to prevent dripping. Turn off the heat and leave the buns in for a minute before removing (so that the buns don’t experience the sudden change in temperature)
